Typr - Introduction
Hi folks, Andrew here from AltRay Digital!
Welcome and thank you for showing interest in my first game here on itch.io!
Before getting started on devlogging my journey throughout the indie game industry I'd like to make an introduction and give you a few reasons as to why I'm doing this in the first place. If you'd like to skip this and go straight to the good stuff then I'm happy to announce that the first devlog went up right alongside this small announcement, so go check it out!
First off, my name is Andrew, I'm the sole developer of AltRay Digital which is the name I decided to use when working on all of my projects.
I've had plenty of experience with multiple personal projects as a video game developer but sadly as of today I have yet to fully release a game to the public. I've worked both in teams and alone and so far I have only managed to release small demos and concepts or even abandon whole projects due to their scope and size, a plague shared among a large amount of indie developers.
You can check out my personal portfolio here for more information on my work: https://andreicioanca25.wixsite.com/portfolio
Here are the main reasons I've decided to start doing these devlogs:
1) They help structure my time and the development schedule of the game. In past days I would usually get lost along the road of development, getting stuck or going off track one too many times. I hope weekly devlogs will help me stay focused and on track but also offer a perspective as to how development has evolved from start to finish.
2) From my experience there are a lot of people out there that have amazing skills when it comes to specific parts of development such as art or programming but can't really think of how to start a game development project on their own. As many other indie game developers you might say I am an expert on "starting things" by now and not actually finishing them and so I'd like to share my process of how I develop games.
3) Devlogs are also a great tool to getting useful feedback on the game from the community.
My goal with Typr (the name of the game) is to go through the whole process of releasing and maintaining a video game post release, a feat that has eluded me for far too long. So feel free to join me on my journey and voice your opinions on what I'm doing right or wrong, all constructive criticism is welcome! Here's a discord link for those that love hanging out on discord: https://discord.gg/nArn9Mk
Finally, I am not an expert in any way, I have yet to work in the industry so take everything I say with a grain of salt. I also wouldn't want those devlogs to turn into some sort of "tutorial", they only represent my own experience with game development, so for that reason I will not go into detail on how to implement certain features or on how to create certain resources such as pixel art or audio files.
